The Gorpcore trend began gaining traction in 2011 when the Japanese clothing brand Beams teamed up with the renowned Canadian outdoor brand Arc'teryx. This collaboration, initially exclusive to Japan from 2011 to 2021, introduced a range of high-performance outerwear that captured the attention of fashion insiders.
The turning point came when images of celebrities wearing these distinctive jackets began surfacing on fashion forums and social media. This exposure shot the Beams x Arc'teryx collections into the spotlight, marking 2017 as a pivotal year for both brands.
